Celebrate 12/12/12 by "Big12ing"

In celebration of 12/12/12, the Big 12 Conference has declared December 12, 2012 “Big 12 Conference Day.” In order to celebrate this momentous occasion, the Big 12 is hosting a competition for all fans of Big 12 universities participate in.

The competition is called “Big12ing. They got the idea off of planking and Tewbowing, but they wanted to create their own event. “We figured we could have fans try to make the Big 12 logo with their bodies,” said Laura Rasmussen Assistant Director of Communications at the Big 12 Conference. “And we thought it would be pretty easy and a fun way to engage them on social media, Facebook and twitter.” In order for the Big 12 Conference to get their brand out there, they thought “Big12ing” would be a perfect idea to get fans engaged into the Conference, but in a very unique way. Also, after you're finished planking or Tebowing, you aren’t awarded with a great prize for all that hard work you put into doing that.

With “Big12ing” the Big 12 Conference will award the winner something very spectacular. “We want the fans to win something that has to deal with their favorite team,” Rasmussen said. “We want to award the fans who support their favorite team that in turns is a representative of the Conference in a bowl game this postseason.”

Up until November 30, fans that would want to participate in “Big12ing” are required to a capture a picture of themselves, friends or family forming the ‘XII’ in the Big 12 logo. “They can get as creative as they want and do it in unique spots around campus or wherever they may be,” Rasmussen stated. “Once they’ve taken their picture, they can submit their photo by visiting our Facebook page.” Fans can only submit one entry. Also, when you do submit your photo, place your contact information down as well so the Big 12 Conference can contact if you win.

Another cool thing about entering this competition is the cool prizes applicants can get. “The first 100 applicants get a free t-shirt from Dr. Pepper that says I’m a Big 12 Fan,” said Rasmussen. “We’ll just aggregate the first 100 entries and send them one of those shirts.”

Again, the first round contest goes through Nov. 30. The Big 12 will collect all submissions and from December 1-12 the Big 12 will narrow it 12 finalists. Those 12 finalists will then compete against each other and the photo with the highest number of votes on the Big 12 Conference Facebook page will win 4 tickets to any bowl game this postseason and up to a 3 night stay at Motel 6. “It’s really good if you’re a college student and have a low budget,” Rasmussen said. “If you win the tickets and you’re able to go to visit Miami for the BCS Championship game, you’ll stay where you can stay and you’ll get the 3 nights at Motel 6.”

It should be noted that the winner is responsible for their own travel. “The actual travel is not included in the prize, but the hotel room comes with it,” Rasmussen said. “If the person lives in the city where the Bowl game they want to attend is, then they would just get a gift certificate from Motel 6 and they can use those down the line.”

If you have any questions, the best way to contact the Big 12 Conference is to message them through their Facebook page or tweet them on Twitter at @Big12Conference and they will respond to you either way.

The Big 12 Conference has put a lot of time and effort into this competition and what better way to celebrate your favorite Big 12 team getting to a Bowl game, then to go celebrate with your team at the actual game! “We want to start a little phenomenon and get people excited for the Big 12 and Bowl season,” Rasmussen said. And it’s not hard to agree with her.

Go crazy with your idea and may the best person win!

Kansas State Will Beat Oklahoma State Tonight

Oklahoma State QB Wes Lunt

Wes Lunt has made one road start in his collegiate career. When OSU played Arizona, penalties destroyed them (school-record 167 penalty yards) and they coughed up the ball four times.

Kansas State leads the Big 12 and is ranked fifth nationally in turnover margin (19 takeaways and four giveaways). They are also ranked second nationally in fewest penalties (3.63/game). They are ranked fourth nationally in fewest penalties (29.1/game). They avoid negative yardage plays, too. They are hardly tackled behind the line of scrimmage that they are ranked sixth nationally in avoiding tackles for loss.

If OSU’s O-line can block for Lunt, allow him to sit in the pocket and throw down field, than he can pick apart the Wildcats defense easily.

But if you remember, though, Lunt was forced outside of the pocket against Louisiana-Lafayette and was hit in the knee. The Cowboys cannot afford Lunt getting hurt.

Kansas State QB Collin Klein

If KSU can get OSU’s offense to go 4-and-out every offensive play and frustrate Lunt, or have them cough up the ball, than the Wildcats will win.

Another thing to keep in mind is that OSU doesn’t have the same turnover-creating defense that they had last year. I know they have most of their defensive players from last year’s squad, but they don’t seem to go after the ball with the same enthusiasm as they did last year.

With all of this in mind, I’m sticking with Kansas State to defeat Oklahoma State.

Central Hockey League Goes From 14 Teams to 10 Teams in 2012

What started out as a promising 2012 season, turned into a nightmare for the Central Hockey League, when they were notified that five teams were either leaving their Conference or folding. But with the start of the 2012 CHL season upon us, the CHL has redeveloped their league, in hopes of having a better future.

With three teams, Dayton, Rio Grande, Laredo,  folding and the teams from Ft. Wayne & Evansville leaving for the East Central Hockey League, the CHL was at a loss entering this upcoming season. But with the gain of the Denver Cutthroats in early 2012, the CHL is back up to 10 teams.

After losing almost half their teams, the CHL comes into the 2012 season revamped and they are excited for the future of their Conference. "We felt this year with 10 teams spread out from Arizona to Illinois that it was a prudent measure to keep the teams in one conference.  The teams will still be fighting for playoff seeding and home ice advantage throughout the regular season, just as if they were in two divisions.  When trying to cut up 10 teams into two five team divisions, there were very few combinations that made sense from a geographical standpoint.  Our Governors voted overwhelmingly to go to one conference and fight it out during the regular season for post-season positioning and the advantage of earning more home games.  Our feeling is that the regular season will be as competitive as ever," said Bob Hoffman, Director of Operations for the Central Hockey League.

The CHL kicks off their 2012 season on Friday, October 19.

We Are T-Minus 8 Days Away From The 2012 Senior Bowl!

Former Okla. State quarterback, Brandon Weeden, will be one of three QB's for the South squad in this year's Senior Bowl, which is held in Mobile, AL.

Weeden was a second team All-Big 12 selection in 2011 after leading his team to a 12-1 record, Fiesta Bowl victory and number three national ranking. The Manning Award finalist finished the year ranked in the top five in every major passing category, including second in passing yards (4,727), second in passing yards per game (363.6), third in total offense (355.8 ypg), third in completions per game (31.4) and fourth in touchdown passes (37).  He set the Oklahoma State single-season records for  passing yards, total offense (4,625 yds), attempts (564), completions (408) and touchdown passes.
“It’s exciting. I’m excited about the opportunity to play against some of the best players in the country.  It’s a huge honor to get an invite and it’s a good quarterback class and I’m just happy to be a part of  the six,” Weeden said.
Weeden was 23-3 as a starter for the Cowboys and leaves Stillwater as the school’s all-time leader in passing yards (9,260), attempts (1,102), completions (766) and touchdown passes (75).  He also holds the school mark for most consecutive games with a touchdown pass (24) and passing yards in a game (502).  The 28-year old former professional baseball player totaled 16 career 300-yard passing games and seven 400-yard games.

The 2012 Senior Bowl will feature a pair of NFL head coaches making their Senior Bowl head coaching debuts.  Mike Shanahan and the Washington Redskins staff will face Leslie Frazier and the Minnesota Vikings staff in the senior showcase event later this month, it was announced today.  Shanahan and his staff will lead the South squad in Mobile, while Frazier’s Vikings staff will coach the North.

So, if you want to catch a glimpse of some of your favorite college players from the 2011-2012 season, make sure to catch the 2012 Senior Bowl. The Senior Bowl is set to kickoff at 3 p.m. CST on Saturday, January 28th at Mobile's Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The game will be shown on the NFL Network.

Here's hoping Michael Irving isn't calling the game.

If you would like more information, go to the 2012 Senior Bowl page here.

Congrats I say!

Congratulations to Mike Gundy! The OSU head football coach of won the Paul "Bear" Bryant College Coach of the Year Award. The guy got OSU football to its highest BCS ranking in school history. He turned that program around.

“It’s been an unbelievable season,” he said. “I don’t know that Oklahoma State’s ever been perceived the way we are now from coast to coast all through the country. I’m so proud of our team and the administration and coaches for getting to this level and continuing to work hard.”

Oklahoma State won its first Big 12 championship and played in its first BCS bowl, getting a 41-38 overtime win over Stanford. The team’s 12 wins were a school record.

Coach Gundy beat out Wisconsin’s Bret Bielema, Art Briles of Baylor, Michigan’s Brady Hoke, Stanford’s David Shaw, Kansas State’s Bill Snyder, former Houston and current Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney.

Congrats again!

Once A Thug, Always A Thug. See Adam 'Pacman' Jones As An Example

One of many mug shots of Adam 'Pacman' Jones.

So, Adam 'Pacman' Jones has found his way back into the news. Hooray! (I'm being sarcastic.) The man has more arrests and is still an active NFL player. Thug - a brutal ruffian or assassin, Boy, does Jones fit that definition to a T.

Jones has a lenghty arrest warrent and I've picked out a few for your pleasure:

October 2003
JOnes was sentenced to one year in jail following a bar fight while attending WVU.

March 2006
Pacman gets charged for Mary Jane possession.

August 2006
Pacman is arrested for disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

2007
For his part in a strip club melee and shooting in Los Vegas that left one club employee partially paralyzed and two people wounded, Roger Goodell suspends Pacman for the entire 2007 NFL season.

July 2011
Bengals CB, Pacman Jones, was arrested for refusing to leave a bar.

Former Bengals RB, Stanley Wilson, was banned for life from the NFL in 1990 for alleged drug use. Pacman Jones has been suspended for two entire NFL seasons (2007 and 2009) and suspended for six games back in 2008. If someone who had a drug problem can be banned from the NFL, why is it that a player who has documented evidence of being ruthless off the field continues to get chances? I can tell you why; It's because the kid has talent and there are teams (Bengals, Cowboys and Titans) that have all taken a chance on him. But you'd think after arrest, after arrest, after arrest that someone would get it in their head about this "thug" and quit giving him chance after chance.

In a world where people are famous for doing bad things than good, it doesn't surprise me that Pacman Jones has been given chances. Everyone can chance, but there are those select few that have trouble follow them wherever they go. How many chances will Roger Goodell give him. Former NFL Commissioneer, Pete Rozell, had a zero-tolerance policy in place, but what can be said about Goodell? If he keeps allowing players like Pacman Jones to play in the NFL, then the "thug" stereotype will always be associated with the NFL, but I'm sure Roger Goodell can handle that sort of pressure.

Big Z is heading to Miami

Big Carlos Zambrano -

You will always have a special place in my heart. When I got to go to my first Cubs vs. Cards series last season, do you know what jersey I picked to wear? It was yours, Z. Yes, it was the cheapest jersey online (I bought it for $0.99 from some company in Japan), but I wore that Blue uni with pride. I will miss watching your temper tantrums. I hope you enjoy working on your tan and you are able to persevere and finally get that World Series ring you have always wanted. When you do when that ring, you can mail it to me so I can wear it proudly for a day or two (and I will make sure to send it back in mint condition.) Thanks for the memories.

xoxo,
a beloved fan
