How To Win Your Fantasy Football League

If you've been watching the t.v. show, "The League" or are extremely caught up in the FFL whirlwind (I have 5 teams so far and counting), then you have probably created a Fantasy Football team. Now, what? Well, I am the best person to ask, since I have won two Fantasy Football League's number one spot and I will help you dominate yours. (I feel sorry for the people who are in my league because I will dominate). I have created some nice, simple rules to oblige by and I hope they help you and others out, too.

It's Okay to Draft Known Players

Photo of Adrian Peterson courtsey of ESPN.com

If you listen to the 'experts' on ESPN or any other sports network, they might tell you that drafting "well-known players" isn't such a good idea. Well, I have always played "well-known players" (i.e. Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Adrian Peterson, Dez Bryant, Michael Vick) and they have scored me major points on my fantasy football team. They are popular because they do well and most of the time they will do well, but everyone is human and people make mistakes and get hurt. Right now, Peyton Manning is sidelined with a neck injury and no one is sure when he will be back, if at all. He could be back, but that is a risk you as an owner will have to take.

Don't Listen To The Experts
The 'experts' think they know who is going to rack up the most points and they might, but do NOT, I repeat, do NOT listen to them. I listened to the guys on 'Fox NFL Sunday' and my team fell flat by week 3. Go with what your gut is saying because you know what is best for you!

Do Your Research
As I mentioned before, Peyton Manning is injured. If you want to do well and maintain your high score status, you will have to research players and see how they played in the offseason (which really shouldn't matter, but you should still take a quick glance at their Stats) and if they are injured. If you don't do your research, you could end up drafting Peyton Manning or some other 'dud' because you didn't know he was injured and get stuck by not being able to release him off your team.

Hope Other Owners in Your League Aren't Playing
There is a slight chance that you may have entered into a league on a whim and you don't know one single owner in that league. You are in luck! I've entered myself into leagues where I didn't know a SOUL and I was able to rack up points because I was the only team owner changing out my players every week and maintaining my team as a whole. This, however, is luck and I would not bank on this happening every single time.

Talk A lot of Smack
It'll show people that you aren't scared and you may impress some owners, but you could really tick them off, but that's the fun of it!

I hope I was able to help others out there with some insight into owning a Fantasy Football team. If you are ever in doubt about a player or naming your Fantasy Team, I am more than happy to help!

Thanks for reading.

"LSU QB Arrested, Kicked Off Team Indefinitely"

Photo courtesy of Louisiana State Gameday.

Ah, just what LSU and the NCAA wanted: another headache. QB Jordan Jefferson, along with LB Josh Johns, were arrested Friday, after arrest warrants had been issued. The boys have been charged with second-degree battery. This is a HUGE blow to #4 LSU and getting into a bar fight, no matter what was said, is not appropriate. You are representing a school and you are the leader of a team that has the chance of winning a National Championship and you have completely blown it and for what? If someone disrespected my family/loved ones, words would definitely would be  thrown around, but not my fists. You as a player have a lot riding on your shoulders and someone wanted to 'ruffle' your feathers and you allowed them to do so. Anger is a problem and in some men and women, that anger can get them into huge trouble, as it did Friday. You have to be able to take a step back and take a deep breath and realize the scum bucket on the bar stool is just trying to get you upset so he can have a story to tell to his grandchildren. Jefferson, you are going places and this person, is not. I do not know what was said, but that person that you kicked is not worth getting kicked off the LSU football team. The lesson should be this: If you want to eventually play in the NFL, stay out of trouble with the law. Wait, on second thought, do exactly it is you are doing, kids. If Adam 'Pacman' Jones can be arrested five times, Michael Vick can be convicted of running a dog-fighting operation, Plaxico Burress can shoot himself in the leg with an illegal gun and be convicted and Ben Roethlisberger can behave the way he does off-the-field, then you are more than welcome to enlist your services to the NFL because they'll welcome you with open arms, starting with the guy below, Roger Goodell, first in line.

I Guess Pete Carroll Doesn't Want To Focus On Winning

Words of advice, Pete. This isn't USC anymore. You're in the NFL and in the NFL, if you don't win games, you're out, but I guess you already know that since this is your SECOND try in the NFL as a head coach. Try to focus on winning instead of pranking your players.

'The Eagles Will Win Super Bowl XLVI'

Photo curtosey of Nowloss

1.    Will T.O.’s body get any hotter?
Sorry, I was distracted by the above picture. Now, I have drool all over my keyboard. You were saying…

2.    Will the Brady and OchoCinco mesh well together?
Moss and Brady was the ideal couple. Chad will end up pouting by the fourth or fifth game.

3.    Will Terry, Howie, Michael and Jimmie on Fox NFL Sunday’s get any cooler?
If they hire me, the answer is yes.

4.    Why did JB leave Fox NFL Sunday for CBS’ Sunday Football Program and does it even have a name?
I am still scratching my head and I am still dumbfounded. The man leaves the most popular Sunday NFL pregame show for CBS’ pregame show. Money really does talk.

5.    What should my Fantasy Football League name be?
I think I’m going with ‘Favre’s Cell Phone’.

6.    Will Ray Lewis ever learn new moves?
I would like to see him ‘Dougie’, but if starts dancing to a Justin Bieber song, I will not watch Ravens games.

7.    Will Plexico Burress succeed in New York?
Did you see that diving catch? The man will be just fine.

8.    What do you think of Rex Ryan’s tattoo?
If my dad got that, I would look into getting adopted.

9.    Will my future baby daddy, Peyton Manning, recover from neck surgery anytime soon?
I saw him on the sidelines against the Redskins, above, and he looked extremely old and exhausted. You’re only 35-years old, Peyton. Wipe that look off your face! The answer to this question is no. The poor guy looks tired and I think he's enjoy the break, but not the the recovery process.

10.           Will Albert Haynesworth stomp on a Patriots player?
Only time will tell. (Check out the video, but it's pretty disturbing.)

11.           Will Tony Romo find his A-game?
If he didn’t find anyone playing ‘Hide and Seek’ at his Bachelor party, then the answer is no. He lost his game back in Mexico in 2008.

12.           Will T.O. sign with anyone?
Ask him this question again when he’s done with his abdominal workout. Again, excuse me while I wipe up some drool… He may sign with a team after the season starts, but no one wants to put up with his diva behavior. T.O. word to the wise, just shut up and play the game. There is no ‘I’ in ‘team’. If you get the ball, that’s great. If not, then congratulate the guy who did. Support your team or you’re going to end up retiring like Randy Moss.

13.           Will Pete Carroll ruin the Seattle Seahawks’ organization?
I hope he drives it into the ground and the NCAA comes after him, but a girl can only dream. Nothing says “We want a winning season” like hiring former Oakland Raiders’ head coach Tom Cable who has volatile anger issues. Sounds to me like a winning combination!

Photo courtsey of MSNBC Media.

14.           Will Larry Fitzgerald falter under pressure of his massive 8-year, $120 million dollar contract?
The only reason why he wouldn’t succeed is if Kevin Kolb couldn’t get him the ball. Fitzgerald is the best wide receiver in the game right now and also the highest-paid. All Kolb has to do is throw Fitzgerald the ball because ‘Fitz’ knows how to make plays. The Arizona Cardinals made it to the Super Bowl not three years ago and they have they have one of the best head coaches in the game (Ken Whisenhunt) that can get them there.

15.           Will Kevin Kolb be the ‘savior’ the Cards have been looking for since Warner retired?
That’s why the Cardinals signed Kolb. He had success in Philly before Michael Vick came along, so he should be good to go.

Video courtsey of YouTube.
16.           Will John Elway get rid of Tim Tebow?
Give Elway two weeks. Tebow isn’t an NFL-caliber QB. People who are popular in ‘high school’ always get hit with reality when they enter the real world and Tebow hit the ground hard in Denver. He may have succeeded at Florida and appeared in a Super Bowl ad, but that is only time he’ll appear in the Super Bowl.

Photo courtsey of profootballzone.com.
17.           Will Cam Newton be able to win more than 2-games this year as the starting QB?
No, he won’t. John Fox left and Steve Smith will make Newton look back. Here’s to Jimmy Clausen saving the organization!

Photo courtsey of ESPN.com.

18.           Will Randy Moss really stay retired?
Like I stated before, Randy Moss still has it going on. He is 34-years old, he stays fit and can still make big plays. The ONLY thing holding a team back from signing him is because he is a D-I-V-A. Tom Brady and he broke the all-time touchdown record back in 2008, he holds the NFL single-season touchdown receptions record, 23 and he is NFL’s rookie player single-season touchdown reception record holder. The man needs to get over himself, just as Chris Johnson, OchoCinco and Terrell Owens need to do. Fans want to see you guys plays because you are AMAZING at what you do. American’s are suffering from ecomonic turmoil and the last thing we want to watch is a player acting like a DIVA because he didn’t get the ball or he isn’t getting paid enough. There are families who can’t pay their mortgages and the economy is in the toilet. Please, just STOP your demanding ways because there are a lot of people who have it a lot worse than you do.

19.           Will I win my Fantasy Football League?
You bet I will!

Photo courtsey of ESPN.com.
20.           Who will win the Super Bowl?
The Eagles will. They signed a lot of veteran and talented players this offseason: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Jason Babin, Vince Young, Ronnie Brown, Nnamdi Asomugha and Cullen Jenkins. They were the busiest team stocking up on talent and they will definitely make the biggest splash in the NFC. My money is on them.

There will be a lot going on in the NFL this season, so hopefully most of these questions will be answered and I am sure it is to be one heck of a ride, one that I am sure to enjoy!

Mo' Money, Mo' Problems

In the words of the wise rapper, Notorious B.I.G., “Mo’ money, mo’ problems.” The NCAA has a huge problem on their hands and on Tuesday, Nevin Shapiro made their headache worse. Shapiro, who is serving a 20-year sentence, has finally ‘come clean’ because the more than 72 players he showered with money and gifts at the University of Miami never came to his aide when he was being sentenced. Shapiro isn't the first of his kind to support schools and players with lavish gifts and isn't the last. The NCAA has been dealing with these types of people and the headache they bring for years and the players (and coaches) listed below have been able to turn a D-1 school and it's sports programs and get off Scott free. Let’s play a word game and we’ll see if I come out the winner. Are you ready to gamble? The following people did and made it out a winner.

Terrelle Pryor
The first word that comes to my mind upon thinking of Terrelle Pryor is lucky. Yes, you read that right and here's why I said it. Long ago, the kid got into trouble for selling jerseys, rings and other memorabilia for tattoos while attending Ohio State. His punishment? He had to pay back the items worth, $2,500 and sit out the first five OSU football games of the 2011 season. He left Ohio State shortly thereafter and has recently entered into the NFL's Supplemental Draft and has been punished to sit out the first 5-weeks with his future NFL team. Lucky. The kid (along with several other former teammates) got Jim Tressel to resign and got the Univ to vacate all their 2010 wins. The University and Tressel faced the NCAA in court last week and now await their fate. Pryor has turned Ohio State's football program upside down and he has made it out Scott free and is going to be able to make millions in the NFL and on endorsement deals. Again, lucky. It's sad to see him and four other selfish people ruin a wonderful coaching career and season for a lot of players, all for money and tattoos. Mark my words, by this time next week, Pryor will have signed a 3-year, $300,000 endorsement deal with Ink Fixx because everyone knows tattoos itch and the kid has a lot of them (you can see his sleeve here).

OJ Mayo
When I think of the name OJ Mayo the word that pops up into my head is smart. His game plan was simple: rack up a closet full of thousands of dollars’ worth of clothes, provided to him by Rodney Guillory, an event promoter in LA, bounce out after a year of playing ball for the Trojans, get signed with the Memphis Grizzlies and make $5.6 million for the 2011-2012 season without ever seeing the inside of NCAA President Mark Emmert’s office. He is a smart man indeed. Mayo is a former USC basketball player  that received money and gifts from Rodney Guillory back in his playing days in 2007. Shortly after his first and only season at USC ended, Mayo jumped to the NBA in the spring of 2008 signed with the Memphis Grizzlies, while his coach Tim Floyd, the USC basketball coach at the time, resigned and the school self-imposed sanctions for the 2010 season. Sounds like a win-win for everyone!

Photo from ESPN.com
Pete Carroll
The best word that best describes Pete Carroll is cool. Back when he was coach of the USC Trojans, it was hard not to see comedian Will Ferrell and Snoop Doggy Dogg on the sidelines. A lot of people were envious; I wasn’t envious of him or USC. I have never liked the colors pink and yellow, but that’s a different story. Carroll ran to the Seattle Seahawks in 2010, while USC was punished by vacating all wins from the 2004 and 2005 season, including the National Championship title from 2005 and be stripped of postseason play for the next two years and the loss of 30 scholarships all because he allowed his star RB Reggie Bush to play ‘tickle the pickle’ with a would-be agent and hired a former NFL tactician to help with the team’s punting and kicking games. Carroll saw the NCAA pitchforks coming for him, so he did what any great coach would do and jumped ship. Yes, cool is definitely the word to use here. If you don’t think Carroll is cool, just look at this and let me know otherwise.

Photo provided by ESPN.com
Reggie Bush
Hey! Let’s make it a trifecta by using another a former USC player as an example. Just by looking at the picture above you are amazed and in awe of his gifted and raw talent. Bush is also incredibly good looking, but those aren't the words I am going to use. No, I am going to use the word sad. Yes, it is sad to see that all of Bush’s raw and gifted talent, especially all the accolades he won and deserved to win to be taken away from him. Bush’s mother and stepfather were provided a home in San Diego by a would-be agent in exchange for Bush signing with the agent once he left USC. After an NCAA investigation, Bush gave back his Heisman trophy after the ironfist of the NCAA fell on top of USC and him. USC also gave back their copy of the Heisman, too. Bush has been playing with the Saints since 2006 and won Super Bowl XLIII. It is sad to see that Mayo, Bush and Carroll could ruin such a powerhouse as USC, but the lights of Hollywood and Los Angeles have made people do crazy things.

Cam Newton
I have never been a fan of Cam Newton, but I will be easy to him, but just this once. The word that best describes Newton is boring. I have never loathe a player as much as I have with him because he is boring to watch. There are two things that make me fall asleep faster than anything else in this world and they are women’s basketball and Cam Newton stepping back into the pocket. Newton was never punished for his father’s actions, but the NCAA hasn’t stopped digging. If I found out that my father was shopping me around for $100-$180 thousand dollars, I would be flabbergasted that is all he thought I was worth. But, when your church needs renovations, I guess any excuse will work, right? Newton is currently playing football with the Carolina Panthers and Cecil no longer has to worry about what choir robes he’ll choir will be wearing next Sunday, since it looks like his son is making more than $180,000.

------------------

A lot of ideas have been thrown around, but you can talk, and talk, and talk ‘til the cows come home, but no one is PHYSICALLY doing anything to fix this. My dad always told me, “that no one wants to hear what you are going to do. If you are going to do something, just do it.” If the NCAA is serious about taking control of this situation, they need to take the reins, get off their couches and take demand of this rampant problem. If they haven’t heard enough solutions, I have posted a few of my own below.

Cease and Desist Solutions

1) Scare the bejesus out of everyone - NCAA President, Mark Emmert, recently used the word ‘Death Penalty’ and that word should scare “The U”, but Emmert and Co., really haven’t proven that they mean business. They slap schools with sanctions, but nothing is worse than being hit with the ‘Death Penalty’ (ask Southern Methodist University how that tasted. They still have a bitter taste in their mouths. (SMU was hit with the ‘Death Penalty’ back in 1987 and they are the last football program to be hit with this penalty).

2) Set-up a scholoarship for underprivileged athletes - Currently, there is no Financial Aid available to athletes or students to use as spending cash. There should be a way for students/athletes to apply for Financial Aid to use as spending money, but they have to demonstrate the financial need. They would receive up to $300/month to help out with whatever the school wouldn’t be able to provide.
3) Pay athletes from ticket sales - Another idea is for athletes to take 1% of ticket sales for each game home with them. The school gets money from ticket sales and TV deals, why not pay all athletes who ‘work’ for the school, by entertaining the masses. You don’t want kids making NFL money, but you want them to be able to reap the reward, too.
4) Coaches fork it over - Steve Spurrier, Head coach of S. Carolina would like to pay players $300/game out of his own paycheck (not bad for a guy who made $2 million in 2010).

In order for the NCAA to get their ‘balls’ back, they should make an example of Miami. You will definitely wake everyone up and everyone would definitely think twice before accepting that car and cold, hard cash. But, I’m a girl and I don’t know what I am talking about. If the NCAA continues having this headache I hear Aleve works really well.
